"What is Splice Detective?" -

Splice Detective is a software designed to analyze the audio of speedrun attempts to determine likelihood of splicing (the most common form of cheating in Speedrunning).

"Who is Splice Detective for?" -

It's for anyone interested in speedrunning video games, whether it be a runner, a moderator, or a viewer. Anyone can use this software to detect potential cheated runs.

"How does Splice Detective detect cheating?" - 

This software attempts to detect potential splices in speedruns by analyzing a run's audio (.wav format) and searching for discrepancies, such as unusual or sudden changes in audio.  Potential splices are clearly marked on the graph, showing you exactly where to turn your investigation.

"What features does it have tho??" -

- Import .wav files from speedruns (or anything else you like) and automatically analyze the likelihood of splicing.  The Splice detection is currently based around recording a window/range of audio, and flagging sudden changes in the average frequency within a short period.  This method is useful for finding splices.

- Visually represent .wav audio data in graph formto help discover potential splices.

- Auto flagging of potential splices in audio (a red warning line is drawn on the graph for every area splice is detected).

-Automatic Sample rate detection for .wav files (run .wav files of any sample rate without the need to manually import settings).

-Local file browser (for searching through your pc's files)

-Import .wav files (audio will automatically be analyzed for potential splices and visualized via graph.

"What features can I expect in the future?" - 

The following features are currently in development:

- Frame by frame video analyzer with automated splice detection

- Audio playback

- Improved Audio splice detection

- Expanded file format compatibility (Splice Detective can currently only read .wav files, but future updates will include both mp3 and mp4, among others)

- General QoL enhancements, including improved UI

-- HOW TO USE --

-To start investigating cheating speedrunners, first find a run of your choosing online to analyze.  

- Convert the video to .wav audio file using the program of your choosing (don't worry!  there are hundreds of free video to audio converters online that are free and simple to use).

- Simply SpliceDetective.exe, click the "load audio" button, and choose a file from your PC.  

-That's it!  Splice Detective will now display a visualization of the run's audio, as well as any potential splices.  if no red lines are rendered, then no splices are detected.  if potential splices are detected, the software will show you exactly which portions of a run to investigate for splices

This software is in early alpha, and is subject to bugs, crashes, etc.   Splice Detective IS NOT a 100% guarantee of a runs validity, and testing positive for splicing in this software DOES NOT GUARANTEE that a run is in fact cheated.   This tool is not intended to use as a tool to create controversy or attack people baselessly, and a positive test in this software alone is not enough to level any legitimate cheating accusation.  It is simply a tool to help point investigation in the right direction.  Detecting cheating via an automated process is a complex and difficult task, do not assume this tool is without fault.
